Standard IATF 16949:2016 and transition

On September 15, 2018, all “old” certificates of the ISO/TS 16949 based on the ISO 9001:2008 will lose their validity. The transition phase will take no more than 23 months.
It is recommended that the transition audit be performed by the end of May 2018 to avoid a certificate-free time due to the nonconformity management (90 days).

IATF 16949:2016 supersedes ISO/TS 16949:2009.
IATF 16949:2016 is fully aligned with the structure and requirements of ISO 9001:2015, but is a sector-specific standard that supplements ISO 9001:2015.
IATF 16949:2016 is an innovative document with a consistent customer orientation. It was created by taking feedback from certification authorities, auditors, suppliers and OEMs into consideration and contains the general customer-specific requirements of the automotive industry.
The certification procedure is defined in a separate specification document: “Rules for Achieving IATF Recognition”

Main new topics of the IATF 16949:
Risk-based thinking
Product safety
Failure analysis and NTF process
Lessons learned − knowledge management
